The Music and Academic Theatre Department at Johnson County Community College presents a children’s play La Culebra from March 9-11.

The academic production, held in the Bodker Black Box Theatre of the Carlsen Center, is free and open to the public. Seating is first-come, first-seated. Performances are 7:30 p.m. March 9; noon, 3 and 7:30 p.m. March 10; 2 and 4 p.m. March 11. Tours will be offered to elementary schools after spring break.

The play, written by Pamela Gerke, is directed by Timothy Noble, adjunct theatre professor. The ancient story from the Aztec culture portrays what happens when a kind farmer saves the life of a snake, La Culebra. A disagreement arises between the farmer and the snake when the farmer explains that if you do good, then good with come back to you in return. La Culebra insists on asking other animals to help settle the disagreement. It takes a donkey, a chicken and a coyote to finally convince the snake that you should always do good deeds and never expect something in return.
